A unique river: the Tagliamento, 4 main lakes: Lake of the Three Municipalities (Lago dei Tre Comuni), Lake Verzegnis, Lake Cornino, and Lake Minisini, along with waterfalls, streams, and natural springs. Water is a defining element of this land. For those who want more than just trails and hikes, the Gemonese area is rich in ideas and alternatives, allowing you to explore even the places that seem most unreachable. Lake of the Three Municipalities is the largest natural body of water in the Region. It is the perfect setting to try many different activities, thanks to the variety of environments surrounding it. In these pure and pristine natural settings, you can practice: sailing, SUP, kayaking, canoeing, packrafting, and rafting. The lake shores are ideal for those seeking tranquility, whether for a walk, a swim, or a ride on a bicycle or pedal boat, without forgetting the Tagliamento River and the Palar stream in Trasaghis.
LAKES
The territories of Trasaghis and Bordano embrace three-fifths of the shores of Lake of the Three Municipalities (also known as Lake Cavazzo), the largest lake in the Region. From its shores, you can peacefully enjoy serene landscapes and find numerous services: restaurants, B&Bs, campsites, a playground, a picnic area, a cycle path, and recreational boating. And from Trasaghis, heading down towards Forgaria, a stop at Lake Cornino is a must—a small, enchanting natural jewel. Just beyond the border between Venzone and Gemona, behind Ospedaletto, you will instead find Lake Minisini: beautiful in every season, but truly wonderful between June and July when the water lilies are in bloom.
RIVERS AND STREAMS
The waters flowing down from the Carnic Prealps run west of the Tagliamento River, passing through the municipality of Trasaghis. Here, there are two main streams with the highest flow rate: the Leale, north of the hamlet of Avasinis, and the Palâr, near Alesso. The former has a rugged path, while the latter – a true paradise for nature lovers – offers crystal-clear pools where you can dive in and swim.
In Venzone, near Portis, almost on the banks of the Tagliamento, the Pradulin Springs surface: two small lakes of rare beauty fed by underground waters. Further south, at the gates of Venzone, you come across the Venzonassa stream, which flows down from a deep gorge on the slopes of Mounts Plauris and Cadin.
The course of the Orvenco stream offers an exciting hike, starting from Salt di Artegna and going up the stream among weirs and waterfalls that form emerald pools. This takes you through a gorge where you can admire the impressive cliff of the Ravistagno Castle, finally reaching the beautiful Tulin Waterfall, famous for its characteristic "whirlpool" path.
