Paragliding in Gemona

A.S.D. Volo Libero Friuli is a paragliding association based in Gemona, where it holds events, runs a paragliding school and offers two-seater sight-seeing flights. Take the road called Strada di Foredôr from Gemona to the Malga Cuarnan. Then walk along the path through the beech woods to the big meadow on Mount Cuarnan from which the paragliders take off, 1200 metres above the plains below. The safe landing site is just outside the town.

Gemona from above: breath-taking views

On the clearest days, you can see the sea sparkling in the sun. Really! Yes, it’s the sea, because Friuli Venezia Giulia encloses a great variety of different environments in less than 100 km: from the beaches and the sea to the plains, rivers, lakes and valleys and the Alps. Paragliders enjoy views of the vast plains of Friuli unfolding below them, the Tagliamento River extending for kilometre after kilometre, the beautiful lake known as Lago dei Tre Comuni down in the valley and, behind it, the highest peaks of the Carnia, towards Tolmezzo, with Mount San Simeone and the Musi mountain chain on the other side.
